The Pickens Sheriff's Office Auxiliary Emergency/Warming Shelter is available to the citizens of Pickens County in the event of an official County Emergency, a natural disaster or other catastrophic event that may occur within the County.


  • The Shelter is opened by direct authorization of Sheriff Donald Craig during emergencies.
  • When the Emergency Shelter has been activated, the Community will be notified through Pickens Sheriff's Office and Auxiliary websites, social media, radio and TV news broadcasts.
  • Any Individual or family that finds themselves displaced through an emergency event is welcome at the Shelter - even someone passing through the County would be able to make use of the shelter.
  • During County Emergencies, at individual or family can get into the Shelter by calling the above phone numbers or by coming directly to the Shelter.


  • Individuals using the Shelter will be required to register with the Shelter Staff. Confidentiality will be maintained and individual rights respected.
  • For safety reasons, pets are not permitted in the Shelter.
  • Food service will be available as needed.
  • Security is provided by Pickens Sheriff's Office.
  • EMS Services will be available if needed.
  • Qualified PSO Auxiliary Volunteers staff the Shelter.

The Pickens Sheriff's Office Auxiliary Emergency Shelter is a temporary facility established for safety reasons only. Every effort will be made by the governing authorities to move people out of the shelter to more permanent housing, as soon as possible.
